Lifeguard/Instructors for FALL 2026

Title: Opening Lifeguard

Reports to: Aquatics Director
Classification: Non-Exempt

Summary:

Opening Lifeguards ensure the safety of patrons by opening the pool and preventing/ responding to emergencies.

Essential Responsibilities:

· Recognize emergencies and respond effectively, completing necessary incident / accident reports.

· Supervise the safety of open swimmers, lap swimmers, and the instructional programs.

· Report any unusual water or safety conditions to a supervisor in a timely manner.

· Inspect pool area on a daily basis, ensuring safety and cleanliness.

· Test and record pool and whirlpool water chemistry, temperature hourly.

· Count and record pool and whirlpool bather data hourly.

· Perform maintenance secondary duties as determined and scheduled by the Aquatics Director.

· Attend periodic in-service training / department meetings as specified by the Aquatics Director.

· Enforce pool area policies, rules, and regulations at all times.

· Dressed appropriately for aquatic lifeguard role (i.e. open sandals, no socks, shorts, SYJCC Lifeguard t-shirt, bathing suit attire)

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not supervise any employees.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

· Able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of evenings and weekends.

Required Education and Experience

· ARC Lifeguard

· ARC First Aid / CPR / AED

Knowledge and Skills:

· Strong customer service skills and creativity in working with adults and children.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Pay: From $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 25 per week
