Position Summary
The Studio School seeks a dependable, experienced, and collaborative Kitchen Assistant to support the daily operations of our school kitchen. The Kitchen Assistant will assist with food preparation, cooking, inventory management, kitchen organization, and maintaining a clean and welcoming kitchen environment.
This is a dynamic role requiring someone who is punctual, hardworking, able to follow directions, and comfortable taking initiative. Each day in a school kitchen is different, and the ideal candidate will be flexible and willing to pivot, step in, and support the kitchen team wherever needed.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily meal and snack preparation, including washing, chopping, measuring, cooking, and assembling food.
- Prepare food according to recipes, directions, and established school practices.
- Help ensure that meals and snacks are prepared and ready in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food-preparation areas.
- Assist with dishes, cleaning, and other daily kitchen responsibilities as needed.
- Monitor and maintain kitchen inventory and communicate when supplies need to be replenished.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and properly storing food and kitchen supplies.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures.
- Follow directions carefully while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
- Take initiative and anticipate what needs to be done throughout the day.
- Adapt to changing needs and priorities and be willing to pivot and fill in wherever support is needed.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team, teachers, administrators, and other members of the school community.
- Contribute to a warm, respectful, and positive environment for children and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a kitchen, food service setting, school, restaurant, or similar environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with basic cooking and food preparation.
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to completing tasks thoroughly and on time.
- Dependable, punctual, and responsible.
- Ability to follow directions and established procedures.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to anticipate needs.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage changing priorities.
- Collaborative team player who is willing to pitch in and support others.
- Comfortable working in a school environment with young children.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
