What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strength Coach (Women-Centered Strength Training) position at The Strength Initiative?
The Strength Initiative (TSI) is a physician-founded nonprofit dedicated to building a community where all women are empowered to lift weights—safely, confidently, and without intimidation. Our mission is simple but powerful: make science-backed strength training accessible, welcoming, and sustainable for women of all ages and backgrounds.
We are seeking a certified strength coach who believes deeply in the transformative power of lifting—for bone health, longevity, confidence, and community—and who wants to be part of a collaborative, values-driven team.

- Many beginners or returning to strength training
- Clients who value education, encouragement, and safe progression
- Small group classes (never overcrowded, never chaotic)
What You’ll Do
- Lead small, science-based strength training classes for women
- Coach with a focus on proper technique, injury prevention, and confidence
- Create a supportive, non-intimidating training environment
- Meet women where they are—while helping them progress meaningfully
- Contribute to a culture that prioritizes community, inclusivity, and empowerment
- Option to assist with program development, events, or mentorship as interests align
Required Qualifications
- Certified Personal Trainer (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent)
- Comfortable coaching barbell and resistance-based movements
- Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence
- Alignment with TSI’s mission and values
- Reliability and professionalism—especially for early morning classes
Strongly Preferred (but not required)
- Experience coaching women, beginners, or older adults
- Interest in women’s health, bone health, or longevity
- Background in exercise physiology, kinesiology, or allied health
- Desire to grow beyond “just coaching classes”
Why This Is a Great Opportunity
- Mission-driven work that truly changes women’s lives
- Supportive team environment—you are not coaching in isolation
- No non-compete clause (we believe great coaches should thrive)
- Competitive per-class pay with room for growth
- Opportunities to expand into:
- Program leadership
- Mentorship and education roles
- Workshops, events, and community initiatives
- Future leadership positions as TSI grows
- Work in a gym culture that values quality over volume
- Be part of a nonprofit that is actively shaping the future of women’s strength training
Our Coaching Philosophy
At TSI, we don’t rush progress, and we focus on strength and confidence over size.
We coach with clarity, compassion, and evidence.
We believe strength is for every woman—and that how a woman feels in the gym matters just as much as how much she lifts.
