The Stony Brook School seeks a talented, mission-aligned faculty member to join our Visual Arts Department beginning in August 2026. This role is expected to center on our ceramics courses such as Ceramics I, Ceramics II, Advanced Arts Seminar, and Middle School Art. We are especially eager to consider candidates who will ideate, propose, and help launch new course offerings that strengthen our visual arts sequence and prepare students for college-level studio art through rigorous skill development, critique, and portfolio-building.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
- A Bachelor's of Art or Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Visual Arts, Arts Education, Ceramics, or a related field (master's degree strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated growth mindset and eagerness to develop as a teacher, mentor, and colleague
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Eagerness to serve in a faith-based learning environment that emphasizes faithful Christian scholarship and character formation
- Expertise in planning and delivering mission-aligned curriculum and lessons with clear objectives, strong materials, and thoughtful assessments that move students toward growth and mastery
- Ability to teach both technical skills and creative process, from introductory to advanced levels
- Strong background in wheel-thrown ceramics, including form, function, and surface development (e.g., carving, slip, underglaze, glazing)
- Ability to teach both technical skills and creative process, from introductory to advanced levels, including Ceramics I, Ceramics II, and Advanced Ceramics
- Experience building student portfolios and guiding critique, revision, documentation, and presentation of work
- Experience with electric kiln operation, kiln loading, firing schedules, and safe studio practices
