Job Summary: Welder - Shop & Field. All applicants must possess current LA City with Semi-Automatic certification.
The Steel Erection Company specializes in steel fabrication and erection of industrial, commercial and multiunit housing. We are looking for an experienced welder that works well independently, able to communicate effectively with the team. This position is a 40 hr job with opportunity for overtime and paid travel time to work sites from shop.
Employee will be an experienced shop and field welder; SMAW, GMAW, FCAW all carbon-mild steel / all positions. Knowledge and proficiency of field construction is required.
- The applicant must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions.
- An applicant with leadership skills, ability to work independently and with the team, ability to communicate as needed for problem solving.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Layout, Fitting, Welding, Finishing | Fabricator of Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals.
- Workmanship - Quality | Self-coordinates workmanship with supervisor to acceptable craftsmanship, to planned fabricated assembly and per welding process-fabrication. This may include repair and re-work as needed. Ironworking processing using fabrication tools; Welding Machines, Lifts, Monorail-Cranes, Saw, Ironworker, Drill Press, Oxy-Fuel Torch.
- Read blueprints and drawings, taking or reading measurements to record and plan for fabrication-installation. Gathering and Recording information and communicating to supervision is also a requirement of this employee.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
- Willingness and ability to travel to various job sites as needed. (Typical, field jobsite locations, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.)
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have a LA City Welders License
- Understanding of Steel and Misc. Metals tools, processing, welding and installation.
- Basic ability to read and write in English and follow through on assignments/complete projects in allotted time.
- Fundamental understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Proficient in English. Bilingual in Spanish and English is an added consideration, by employer for this hired position.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company, three-year training program required.
- Current welding certifications.
- An LA City card, with Semi-Automatic certification is a must for this position.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended hours.
- Comfortable with working on elevated surfaces.
- Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
PAY: $26-$30 dollars an hour depending on experience with a 3 month probationary period that can lead to pay/step increase.
