What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant General Manager position at The Station Smashburgers?
It’s a sunny day in Berkeley and the perfect day to join The Station.
We’re looking for an Assistant General Manager to join us — to help run this restaurant today, and play a key role in building this restaurant for tomorrow.
Part of the job is leading the floor when it matters most — keeping the energy right, the team focused, and the standard high. The other part is building something real behind the scenes: dialing systems, supporting your people, and helping a young restaurant grow the right way.
You care about details because you know they add up. You step in without being asked. You take ownership — not because you have to, but because that’s just how you work.
What you’ll do
Lead the operation
Run strong, efficient shifts and keep service tight
Be a visible leader during peak hours
Own openings, closings, and transitions
Solve problems quickly and keep the team focused
Build & develop the team
Help hire, train, and onboard new staff
Coach and hold the team to high standards
Maintain a respectful, positive, no-drama environment
Drive performance
Execute weekly inventory and maintain accuracy
Support food cost control (portioning, prep, waste)
Monitor labor and adjust staffing in real time
Assist with scheduling and shift coverage
Own the guest experience
Stay present and engaged on the floor
Handle issues quickly and professionally
Uphold high hospitality standards at all times
Who you are
You’ve spent time in restaurants (3 years in management or similar roles) and are comfortable in high-volume environments.
You’re organized, accountable, and calm under pressure.
You’re a strong communicator who can lead a team and earn respect.
You care about standards, details, and doing things the right way.
Spanish is a plus.
Compensation & growth
Competitive pay (based on experience)
Two weeks paid vacation sick time
Benefits package
Clear path to General Manager for the right person
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
If not, you probably know exactly who it is — send them this.
See you at The Station
