Six (6) years of experience in fire science, education, or related field is required. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in fire science, education or related field may substitute for the required experience.


Additional requirements:

  • Florida Certified Contract Manager required within one (1) year of employment.
  • Florida Fire Service Instructor required within one (1) year of employment.

Preferences:

  • Certified Firefighter II – NFPA 1001.
  • Five (5) or more years management experience.
  • Five (5) or more years teaching executive level coursework or BA/MS level.


This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.


Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of current practices in college / executive level course delivery.
  • Knowledge of distance education concepts.
  • Knowledge of grant and contract proposal writing.
  • Ability to teach diverse groups of students.
  • Ability to develop and implement procedures for student learning evaluation.
  • Ability to use multi-media and computer programs in an educational setting.
  • Ability to conduct research and publish findings on related topics.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and prepare teaching materials.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with “Interactive” computer processes.
  • Knowledge of and ability to deliver computer based educational programs.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Develop, plan, organize, instruct, and coordinate executive level courses. Serves as academic advisor for executive level students.


Coordinates delivery of National Fire Academy (NFA) Training Curricula.


Supervises, OPS, and Contract Instructors. Plans workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with the instructors. Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met. Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings. Trains employee in methods for performing duties effectively and efficiently. Directs the work of employee to ensure best use of time and resources. Motivates employee to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.


Collaborates with universities and other academic institutions to enhance educational opportunities for fire service personnel. Develop programs for delivery via distance learning models, multi-media, and interactive components and procedures for evaluating student learning.


Manage training resources, including materials, equipment, and facilities. Ensure the availability and maintenance of necessary training resources. Manages the updates to the Bureau webpage in coordination with staff. Manages NFA State Training System Grants and other training grants as assigned.


Keep abreast of changes in firefighting tactics, equipment, and regulations. Conduct research on related topics and publish results.


Review and approve Executive level portfolios and applications. Promote safety awareness and compliance. Maintain accurate records.


Perform other related duties as required by the Bureau Chief.
