This position works in Tallahassee as a Deputy Director.


Minimum Requirements:

Five years of full-time executive level leadership experience overseeing program, fiscal, contractual and administrative functions.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, management, and/or workforce-related field of study.
  • Experience managing programs that include implementation of statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide collaborative leadership and partnership with stakeholders.
  • Experience analyzing and implementing legislation.

Job Description:

The Deputy Director reports to the Director and is responsible for implementing program priorities, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies, as directed by the Director. The position is responsible for ensuring vocational rehabilitation services align with the Division’s mission.


The position serves as the lead for legislative activities impacting the Division, to include legislative bill analysis, legislative bill tracking, development of legislative budget requests and implementation of legislation. The Deputy Director works closely with the Director, Fiscal Administrator and other senior managers to ensure the Division is operating within the approved operating budget.


The employee is responsible for oversight of the Division’s administrative rules, including adherence with the rule-making process, timelines and implementation.


The employee is responsible for the oversight of the development and implementation of the State Plan.


The position oversees the Bureau of Field Services providing direction and guidance to the Bureau Chief in the management and operation of field operations and program implementation.


The position oversees the Bureau of Compliance and Quality Assurance providing direction and guidance to the Bureau Chief on compliance with federal laws, state statutes, rules and quality improvement activities, including data analysis and data-informed decision making.


The position oversees the Bureau of Vendor and Contracted Services providing direction and guidance to the Bureau Chief in the management and operation of the Bureau, including compliance with contract monitoring requirements.


The position oversees the Bureau of Technology Services providing direction and guidance to the Bureau Chief in the management and operation of the Division’s information technology services and systems.


The position oversees the Bureau of Administrative Services concerning operations and management of office space, office equipment and furnishings, purchasing, P-Cards, emergency operations and leasing.


The position works closely with the Director and Personnel Administrator on the management of human resources including organizational challenges, allocation of personnel, and actions related to recruitment, selection, transfer, reassignment, promotions and disciplinary actions.


The employee is responsible for preparing and administering presentations to the public.


The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance competing priorities and be solution focused. The employee must exhibit courteous and professional behavior to positively impact staff morale.


The employee must develop measurable performance expectations, complete timely performance evaluations, and approve monthly attendance and leave for each position under his/her direct report. Timesheets will be completed in the People First system by the 5th business day of the following month.


Travel is required.

Background Screening Requirement:

It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment undergo level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer. All applicants for employment or to volunteer who are selected for an interview will be provided with the Consent to Background Screening form for level 2 screening, the Affidavit of Good Moral Character, and the Notice of Rights. The leading candidate for employment or to volunteer will be required to execute the Consent form and Affidavit, report to a designated location, and submit fingerprints for level 2 screening. No applicant for a designated position will be employed or permitted to volunteer until the level 2 screening results are received, reviewed, and approved by the Department. Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.

  • Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month.
