Job Title: Health Information Technician
Position Summary:
We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Health Information Technician to join our team. This position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of patient records, supporting clinical and administrative functions, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fully electronic, paperless environment and has strong experience with EHR systems and healthcare documentation processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage inbound faxes and ensure timely processing of documents.
- Import electronic faxes into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
- Scan and convert paper charts into digital format within the EHR.
- Assign charts to abstractors for the Cancer Registry.
- Conduct MIPS chart audits and input data into the Practice Management System.
- Handle Release of Information (ROI) requests in compliance with HIPAA, including requests from patients, healthcare providers, legal representatives, and payers (e.g., monthly audit requests).
- Distribute rescheduled, no-show, or canceled appointment tasks using Tavoca reminder system and the EHR.
- Send notifications to patients encouraging enrollment in the CareSpace patient portal.
- Provide phone support for the department and manage voicemail messages.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 4 years of experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR) in a healthcare setting.
- Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams).
- Comfortable using various healthcare-related technologies in a paperless environment.
Special Requirements and Skills:
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to operate a PC and multi-line phone system.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information appropriately.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
