Job Summary
The position of Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing group exercise fitness instruction and supervision in variety of formats. Candidates must be able to instruct multiple fitness levels and ensure the safety of all patrons in the class. This person will enforce all building policies pertaining to group exercise and be able to communicate these to a diverse group of patrons why policies are in place. The instructor will serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness and wellness, and are responsible in ensuring that safety of the members is not compromised.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Instruct upbeat, enthusiastic fitness classes according to class description
Plan and lead exercise/activity sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas
Set up, monitor and return class equipment in serviceable condition
Advises participants on program and class procedures and policies
Distributes handouts/class evaluations as appropriate and answers questions from participants.
Greet members/guests and maintain positive guest relations
Anticipate member/guest needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all members/guests
Assist with member/guest class sign-ups and check-ins the wellness center
Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
Maintain knowledge of POS system and member-based system
Maintain knowledge of correct maintenance procedures and use of equipment; report any equipment failures in a timely manner
Perform opening and closing procedures according to checklist
Maintain knowledge of hours of operation, memberships, fees, services, products and merchandise
Maintain complete knowledge of property and Watersound Club as a whole
Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work area
Assist with wellness programming and events monthly as required
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job related needs
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Group Fitness Certification Required (Cycle, Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, TRX, Aqua Aerobics, Barre, Bootcamp, and/or HIIT)
Computer experience including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Experience in a wellness/fitness setting and/or a passion for wellness/fitness
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Detail oriented and thorough
Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant friendly way
Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to motivate others in a professional setting
Self-motivated
Knowledge of POS systems and member-based systems
Knowledge of correct maintenance procedures and use of equipment
Knowledge of health and wellness practices
Knowledge of proper sanitation methods
Ability to think critically
Ability to resolve and troubleshoot problems individually
CPR/First Aid Certified (may obtain after hire)
Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards
Physical Demands
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
May be required to reach with hands and arms, bend, lift, kneel, and drive a car
Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more
Ability to withstand frequent exercise and physical activity
Working Conditions
Work may take place indoor and/or outdoor
Exposure to extreme heat or cold depending on season
Exposure to cleaning chemicals (with proper PPE)
