Digital Print Shop Assistant

Position Overview

The St. Ignace News is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Digital Print Shop Assistant to support the daily operations of our in-house digital print and production department. This position plays an important role in helping produce high-quality printed materials for local businesses, organizations, and community publications throughout the region.

Responsibilities include assisting with digital printing, bindery and finishing work, packaging, customer orders, and maintaining an organized production environment. This role also offers variety throughout the week, as one day may include assisting with newspaper deliveries to rack stands and distribution locations throughout the surrounding area.

The ideal candidate is motivated, reliable, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in producing quality work while serving the local community.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with operation of digital printing equipment and production copiers
• Prepare print files and materials for daily production
• Perform finishing work including cutting, folding, stapling, binding, laminating, and packaging
• Ensure quality control standards are maintained throughout production runs
• Organize completed jobs for customer pickup or delivery
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the print shop and production areas
• Load and unload paper, supplies, and finished products
• Assist customers and staff with print production requests and projects
• Assist with weekly newspaper deliveries to rack stands and distribution locations throughout the region
• Perform basic maintenance and cleaning on equipment as needed

Qualifications

• Previous print shop, production, warehouse, or manufacturing experience preferred
• Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Basic computer knowledge required
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
• Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Skills

• Experience operating digital print or finishing equipment
• Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite programs including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator is a plus
• Previous graphic design experience and understanding of print layout, file setup, and print production preferred
• Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and basic print production workflows
• Previous delivery or route-driving experience is beneficial
