Physical Education Teacher and Coach

Overview:

The Spence School is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Physical Education teacher and Athletics Coach to begin in the Fall of 2026. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum that promotes physical fitness, skill development, teamwork and lifelong wellness, and for coaching at least one Middle and/or Upper School team.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop and implement engaging physical education lessons aligned with Shape America National Standards and curriculum goals.
• Teach a variety of units including upper school elective offerings such as outdoor cycling, inline skating, yoga, pilates and other lifetime fitness activities.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs, interests and abilities of diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional practices.
• Assess student performance using a variety of formative and summative methods.
• Integrate technology to enhance learning outcomes and engagement.
• Coach one or more varsity and/or middle-school level team, preferably lacrosse, softball or soccer

• Demonstrates pedagogical skill and an appreciation for the science and the craft of teaching
• Finds joy in working with children and in school life 
• Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Approaches work with energy, kindness, maturity, curiosity, flexibility, and a sense of humor
• Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team
• Enjoys a commitment that extends beyond the classroom, including contributions to the larger school community
• Has sustained teaching experience with middle and upper school students
• Ability to design standards-based instruction that supports motor skill development, fitness, responsible behavior and lifelong physical activity.
• Has experience coaching women’s lacrosse, softball or soccer (preferred)
• Possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education 
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
