The Spay & Neuter Center of New Jersey is seeking a compassionate, experienced Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join our high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter team. Schedule
- Full-time
- Monday–Friday
- 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
- No nights
- No weekends
Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient admissions and obtain brief medical histories from clients.
- Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats.
- Prepare surgical patients, including clipping, scrubbing, and positioning.
- Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia.
- Monitor patient vital signs throughout anesthesia and recovery.
- Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Administer treatments and assist veterinarians as directed.
- Communicate postoperative discharge instructions clearly and compassionately to clients.
- Assist with maintaining accurate medical records.
- Answer a multi-line phone system and provide excellent client service.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary hospital environment, including daily cleaning duties.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of veterinary experience required.
- Surgical and anesthesia experience in a private practice or high-volume spay/neuter setting strongly preferred.
- Experience monitoring anesthesia in dogs and cats is highly preferred.
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work well in a collaborative team environment.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and lifting up to 40 pounds unassisted.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows, Google Workspace and common office software.
- Experience with social media is a plus.
Veterinary Technician certification is preferred, but not required.
