Role OverviewWe are seeking a combined UI/UX Designer–Developer to support the design and implementation of a secure, large-scale election and voting platform for a major public-sector client.
This role covers:
- UX: Research, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and experience design
- UI: Front-end development, component implementation, accessibility, and delivery
You will work across product, engineering, QA, and business teams to ensure the user experience is intuitive, compliant, accessible, and performance-ready for high-stakes election events.
Key ResponsibilitiesUX Responsibilities- Understand election workflows, constraints, and user roles across voters, candidates, and administrators.
- Translate requirements into user journeys, flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.
- Conduct/participate in user research and usability testing, validating design decisions.
- Design for accessibility and inclusivity (WCAG, keyboard navigation, screen-readers).
- Document UX specifications, edge cases, and interaction rules for development teams.
- Partner with UI developers to evolve a reusable design system and component library.
- Assist product/QA to ensure delivered features match intended UX expectations.
- Support continuous UX improvement from discovery through delivery.
- Implement responsive, accessible UI components based on UX specifications and design system guidelines.
- Build front-end functionality using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Develop with React, Angular, or Vue and integrate front-end components with APIs.
- Implement form flows, validations, and error handling for voting and administrative tools.
- Ensure performance, accessibility compliance, and cross-browser optimization.
- Manage state, data binding, and API consumption in complex workflows.
- Write and maintain unit/UI tests to prevent regressions.
- Participate in code reviews, sprints, and continuous improvement of the front-end codebase.
- 4–6 years combined experience in UX, UI development, or front-end engineering.
- Experience designing and/or implementing workflow-driven, form-heavy applications.
- Prior work in high-stakes, regulated, or public-sector platforms is strongly preferred.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and UX rationale.
- Proficiency designing for accessibility, clarity, and error prevention.
- Ability to create interaction patterns that support component-based front-end frameworks.
- Strong understanding of information architecture and interaction design.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3 (flexbox/grid).
- Hands-on experience with React, Angular, or Vue.
- Experience consuming REST APIs, managing UI state, and handling asynchronous operations.
- Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and reusable UI patterns.
- Experience with front-end testing tools and debugging workflows.
- Experience working in Git-based CI/CD environments (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.).
- Proficiency with Figma or similar prototyping tools.
- Ability to work in Agile teams (PM, BA, developers, QA).
- Strong communication and ability to explain design/technical decisions to non-technical audiences.
- Understanding of modern web front-end architectures and responsive design constraints.
- Experience deploying or supporting UI in cloud environments (Azure preferred).
- Familiarity with SSO/OAuth2/OIDC and UI implications for roles/permissions.
- Strong attention to detail and ownership.
- Ability to work under tight timelines with high-stakes deliverables.
- Effective communicator with cross-functional teams.
- Experience designing or developing civic, voting, or government service platforms.
- Familiarity with workflows such as voter eligibility, ballot selection, confirmations, or audit-ready review flows.
- Advanced UX training (NN/g, HCI degree, UX certification) or front-end engineering certifications.
- Experience supporting large public-sector systems (state/local election platforms, education, civic engagement).
