What are the responsibilities and job description for the Childcare Workers Afternoon position at The Shyne School?

Summary

We are looking for an afternoon Pre-K Teacher from 3:00 to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Arrive in the afternoon after snack, supervise free play/projects, outside and then a late snack and free play as we close the school for the day. (Can substitute for other teachers for more hours)


We are participating in the Early Achievers Program and teachers can apply for scholarships in ECE.


We have a dedicated group of professional teachers that share a common goal of offering programs that meet children and family’s needs. Each program focuses on a different age group and offers opportunities to learn new skills and explore different topics of study.


We are a private school, the sole school. We have a dedicated teaching team and value the work our teachers do. We are not corporate. We feel consistency for students and staff is important. Our classrooms always have two teachers. We have an inclusive, respectful work culture. We all work as a team, a work family. We welcome new community members and enjoy getting to know them. We feel it is important to build morel. We listen to our staff and respect their opinions. We have four classrooms and four play yards in a wooded setting. Our Lead and Lead Assistant Teachers work together as a team like co-teachers. We appreciate all our teachers do.


Director Katrina Brooke has worked at The Shyne School since 2002 when her oldest son was two years old. Her youngest son also attended starting in 2006 at the age of two. Katrina started working in the childcare field at the age of 16 as an Aide and has held the positions of Assistant, Lead Assistant, Lead (8 yrs.), Program Supervisor (8 yrs.) and Director (25 yrs.). She understands how important each position is to providing quality care for students and the respect needed for teachers. She attended U of W, North Seattle Collage and Lake WA Tech. The Shyne School has seen core teachers work for 2 to 27 years.

Duties

  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Care for children in home like setting
  • Sanitize toys and play equipment.
  • Guide children's behavior and teach problem solving skills.
  • Observe and monitor children's play activities.
  • Welcome and great families at the end of the day.
  • Good customer service and communication skills needed.
  • Instruct children in health and personal habits, such as eating and toilet habits.
  • Read to children.
  • Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, such as laundry, cleaning, toy washing.
  • Maintain a safe play environment.
  • Serving snacks to children.
  • Perform general administrative tasks, such as taking attendance, injury reports, and messaging or making phone calls to parents.

Requirements

Requirements Must have or willingness to obtain:


  • Childcare 30 hr. Basics (Free or reimbursed)
  • FREE TRAINING WA Early Care Education & Child Care Training - The Imagine Institute (imaginewa.org)
  • Background Check (Free)
  • TB Test (Current, with in the last year)
  • First Aide, CPR, AED (Free )
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training (Free on the Labor and Industries website)
  • Food handlers

Requirements and Qualifications:


  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of and experience with groups of children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of guiding behavior.
  • Active e-mail account.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • STARS ID number
  • Registered with MERIT https://www.dcyf.wa.gov/services/earlylearning-profdev/merit
  • Complete Department of Early Learning Portable Background Card.
  • Must take Childcare Basics 30 clock hour class within 3 months.

Physical Requirements


The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.


Must be obtained before employment:


  • TB test and Current vaccines – Proof of MMR and vaccines, required.
  • Complete Department of Early Learning Portable Background Card

Nice To Haves

Have or working on a degree in Early Childhood Education.

About Us

Since 1983 The Shyne School has been providing high quality care for children 1 to 6 years old. The Shyne School is in Woodinville, Washington; about one mile North of Redmond city limits, on Avondale Road. We specialize in licensed play-based educational programs for children ages 1 to 5 years old. Parents have the flexibility to choose from three different daily schedules for toddlers through Pre-Kindergarten. We have long-term staff. Teachers are consistently in their own classrooms and not sent home when numbers are low. The school also has students who are up to 6 years old during school holidays.
