Description:DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Development & CommunicationsJOB TITLE: Advocacy Intern FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part time- 16 hours per weekREPORTS TO: Advocacy Manager POSITION DESCRIPTION:The Advocacy internship at Shepherd’s Table is an opportunity to dive into community organizing, strategic communications, and local-level government relations at a mission-driven organization. Our interns are passionate about food and housing security for everyone in our community and are ready to engage with our meal guests, volunteers, partners, and government entities to advocate towards our broader goals. The internship will follow the local budget process, focusing on food insecurity, housing assistance programs, and behavioral health priorities. Through these priorities, the intern will utilize a wide range of skills including mobilization tactics, policy analysis and communication, community needs assessment strategies, and more. We hope our advocacy intern will gain insight into advocacy and public policy work in the nonprofit sector, practical experience and networking opportunities with professionals and stakeholders in the community. PRIMARY JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:Engage in social media and digital advocacy efforts, including creating content. Assist with research on relevant policies, legislation, and advocacy opportunities. Prepare briefs, fact sheets, and other materials to support advocacy campaigns. Analyze policy and brainstorm advocacy strategies Help organize events such as Community Listening Sessions, workshops, or public forums Provide administrative support to the advocacy team as needed Conduct community organizing and engagement with Shepherd’s Table guests and community members MISSION & VALUES:Foster a safe and inclusive environment that promotes solidarity among clients, volunteers, staff, and supporters. Is effective and flexible as a team member, communicates and works collaboratively with others within the organization) Requirements:EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Required: Student in College or University with focus on studying political science, public administration, sociology, social work or related Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:Excellent written and verbal communication skills General computer knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods.
