What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher position at The Shelly Company?
The Shelly Company, a CRH company, is a leading supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready‑mix concrete, and paving services across Ohio. We’re known for quality, innovation, and safety — and we’re looking for early‑career talent who want to grow in logistics, operations, or transportation management.
Schedule: Full‑time, with significant overtime opportunities May-October
About the Role
As a Dispatcher with The Shelly Company, you are the central hub that keeps our materials, projects, and customers moving. This is a fast‑paced, problem‑solving role where no two days look the same — ideal for someone who thrives on communication, multitasking, and keeping operations running smoothly.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate and dispatch trucks for aggregate and asphalt deliveries across day and night shifts.
- Build efficient routes, monitor delivery progress, and adjust schedules as conditions change.
- Serve as the communication link between drivers, brokers, project managers, and customers.
- Maintain strong relationships with trucking partners and ensure compliance with safety and documentation requirements.
- Review and process trucking invoices for accuracy.
- Support estimating and sales teams by reviewing haul routes and volume needs for upcoming bids.
- Use dispatch systems and standard office software to manage schedules and documentation.
What Peak Season Looks Like (May–October)
This role includes consistent overtime during the busy season, often 10–20 hours per week depending on project volume. During this period, there may be occasional Saturday work. Saturday hours are typically partial days and can be completed remotely or using a company‑provided cell phone. Most after‑hours work can also be handled remotely.
What Standard Season Looks Like (November–May)
During the standard season, dispatchers typically work 36–45 hours per week with a more predictable schedule and steady workflow. This period offers consistent hours, regular routines, and opportunities to focus on planning, communication, and supporting ongoing projects without the intensity of peak‑season volume.
Who Thrives in This Role
- Strong communicators who stay calm under pressure
- People who enjoy coordinating moving parts
- Fast decision‑makers
- Individuals who like building relationships with drivers and project teams
- Those who want a role with clear impact on daily operations
What You Bring

- 1–3 years of dispatch, logistics, transportation, or related experience (preferred but not required)
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
- Comfort using computer systems and learning dispatch software
- Strong problem‑solving and customer service skills
- Ability to use everyday math (percentages, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to check load quantities, rates, and delivery information
Work Environment
This is primarily an office‑based role with occasional visits to plants or job sites.
