Job purpose
The Servant Center’s Medical Respite program is a vital bridge between hospital care and stable housing, offering a safe, compassionate environment where 43 unhoused adults can heal with dignity after a health crisis. Residents are supported not only in their physical recovery, but also in reconnecting to health care, community resources, and pathways toward greater stability and independence.
The Clinical Director plays a key leadership role in advancing this mission by ensuring timely and appropriate referrals, coordinating high-quality, person-centered medical care, and working in close partnership with case management and community providers. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, the Clinical Director helps residents better understand and manage their health while fostering trust, empowerment, and continuity of care.
The program serves both veterans (21 beds) and non-veterans (22 beds) experiencing homelessness who have medical needs and can independently complete activities of daily living (ADLs)
Essential Functions
The essential functions of this job include:
- Review referrals for appropriateness/eligibility
- Coordinate transportation
- Review hospital records, medications, and facilitate an assessment at admission, then communicate pertinent findings with other medical, case management, and dietary staff
- Provide healthcare coordination and a health plan for residents
- Assess residents’ health status
- Reconcile prescribed medications and assist with refills
- Coordinate transportation for medical appointments
- Coordinate care with other health providers, including home health
- Educating residents about their health conditions
- Oversee medication storage and documentation
- Cross-train staff as needed on health-related topics
- Report incidents as appropriate
- Collaborate with the housing team for housing, benefits, and other social service needs
- Participate in the certification process for the National Medical Respite Institute.

Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Current, licensed RN or LPN in NC
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Organized and able to multitask
- Experience with unhoused persons is a plus
- Able to stay calm in a crisis
- Flexible and adaptable
Working Conditions
Location: 1915 Boulevard Street, Greensboro, NC
Schedule: 4 – 10-hour shifts a week and one weekend a month; rotating on-call
The Clinical Director will spend about half his/her time doing office work and the other half serving residents. The Clinical Director may, on occasion, pick up new residents from the hospital, accompany residents to appointments, or visit potential residents in the hospital to screen for eligibility.
The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
