About the Role
The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for overseeing special education programming, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and supporting instructional staff to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
This role includes leadership of special education teachers, coordination of services, and collaboration with school leadership to drive student achievement.
This position reports to the Director of Academics.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Oversight & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with IEPs, 504 plans, and MSDE regulations
- Monitor and manage all aspects of the special education process
- Lead internal compliance monitoring and corrective action planning
- Support MSDE audits, investigations, and reporting requirements
Instructional Leadership
- Support and evaluate Special Education Teachers and Instructional Assistants
- Develop and implement co-teaching models and instructional supports
- Design tools and systems to monitor student progress and outcomes
- Lead professional development related to special education
Data & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and compliant student records and data systems
- Compile and analyze data to drive instruction and interventions
- Report required indicators to MSDE within established timelines
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with school leadership, teachers, families, and external stakeholders
- Attend IEP meetings and serve as a key resource for student support
- Collaborate with state and local agencies to ensure continuity of services
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage special education-related service contracts (e.g., Speech, OT)
- Participate in due process hearings and compliance meetings
- Support grant management and program outcomes
- Perform other duties as assigned

QualificationsRequired
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Active MSDE certification in Special Education (Grades 6–12)
- Certification in Educational Leadership and Supervision
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role
- Successful completion of a background check
Preferred
- Doctorate in a related field
- Prior teaching experience in special education
