Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of two (2) years of study at an institution of higher learning or an Associate’s degree; or successful completion of a formal academic assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing in reading, writing, mathematics, and other academic subjects or in reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness.
• Demonstrates written and oral linguistic skills in English and in a minimum of one target language (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, etc.).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree.
• One (1) year of related experience.

Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills; organizational and management skills.
• Knowledge of general policies and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
• Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment, materials, practices, computers, and applications.
• Ability to professionally and effectively respond to customer needs and requests for service or assistance.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Contact parents and families through phone calls, home visits, and meetings at school or district site in order to encourage participation in school and or district activities and events.
• Provide information to parents concerning district policy and procedures such as registration, PTO, curriculum, assessment, discipline etc. as stipulated in the ELL Plan and Code of Student Conduct.
• Establish a network and create a database with local businesses and community organizations.
• Schedule, organize, and develop presentations for ESOL Parent Engagement Institutes throughout the year, 1 per quarter to provide informative bilingual sessions for our ELL parents.
• Organize and develop bilingual parental involvement activities such as Bilingual Literacy Nights, etc.
• Provide bilingual communication support to teachers, staff and students through interpreting and translating data and information.
• Gather resources with information for ELL families that will be shared through our ESOL website.
• Demonstrate understanding and respect of individual student’s culture and interests.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with laws and policies concerning confidentiality of student information.
• Perform related clerical and recordkeeping duties as directed.
• Adhere to safety procedures.
• Responsible for assisting and collecting documentation related with activities done by the district and schools ESOL Nights.
• Provide translating of district and school documents designed to inform parents such as letters, bulletins, announcements, calendars, notices, webpage information, articles, flyers, newsletters, but not limited to these as requested by the ESOL Department.
• Maintain accurate records for all activities for the purpose of the district and state auditors and Superintendent and Title III grant.
• Responsible for keeping up-to-date on current technology, as appropriate, being used by SDLC. With the support of the district, attend training to ensure skill-level in various technologies is at the level in various technologies is at the level required to perform current position.

S04, $18.46, 8 hours, 255 days
Compensation may increase based upon relevant education and experience.

Salary : $18
