What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Services Worker & Receptionist (5077) position at THE SALVATION ARMY?
This position is responsible for:
Provides social service assistance to eligible clients in the following areas; food, lodging, clothing, furniture, and financial assistance; interviews clients to determine need and eligibility to receive services; prepares accurate and complete client records; refers clients to community agencies and maintains effective working relationships with the same; ensures compliance with program policies and procedures. Answers the telephone in a courteous manner and directs calls to the appropriate destination; records accurate and complete messages when necessary; receives and receipts deliveries and donations; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides general information about The Salvation Army’s operations and services; performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greets and interviews clients requesting assistance to determine client’s eligibility for assistance based on program guidelines and restrictions.
- Records clients disposition and other pertinent information such as income, expenses, family, and work history.
- Assists clients in completing applications for assistance by photocopying social security cards, picture identification cards, payroll statements, utility bills, etc.
- Prepares, completes, and processed food, clothing, furniture vouchers for eligible clients; directs clients to Lodge kitchen, Thrift Store, or distribution Center for assistance.
- Answers the telephone and transfers calls to the appropriate destination; responds to callers' questions and provides accurate information.
- Records accurate and complete messages; ensures the timely and accurate distribution of messages.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work requires frequent speaking, listening, typing, and viewing/looking at computer screens for long periods of time. Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb. Requires the frequent lifting or moving of items over 25 pounds, the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Drive a large truck. Use a hand truck and or pallet jack.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required with additional secretarial courses preferred,
- And Two (2) years experience performing clerical work in an office environment,
- Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications
- Valid State Driver’s License
