Receptionist/Food Pantry Worker (5093)

This position is responsible for:

Operates the pantry/distribution area of the Social Services Department. Packages grocery bags and ensures that there is always a sufficient supply of filled bags ready for distribution to clients. Maintains inventory of canned goods, babu supplies, and baked goods. Answers the telephone in a courteous manner and directs calls to the appropriate destination; records accurate and complete messages when necessary; receives and receipts deliveries and donations; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services; performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reads, understands, and follows Social Services policies pertaining to pantry services and areas of client condidentiality.
• Helps load and unload all pantry deliveries.
• Stocks supplies and pantry shelves.
• Keeps pantry, office, and storage areas clean.
• Receives , greets, and announces visitors in a courteous and tactful manner; provides assistance to callers and visitors by answering questions and providing instructions and referrals; screens sales representative soliciting to The Salvation Army.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language is required.
• Ability to lift and carry filled grocery bags and boxes of canned goods up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing.

Working is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather of discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma of G.E.D. required,
• and
• two years of progressively responsible experience working in a major firm with telephone answering responsibilities,
• or
• any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities.
