What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Monitor (5161) position at THE SALVATION ARMY?
This position is responsible for :
- Accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules.
- maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order.
Key Responsibilities:
- Checks clients into the shelter; completes required paperwork for client intake, inputs data into the computer
- Assists with collecting and entering data into the HMIS database.
- Distributes towels, linens, etc. secures and distributes client medications as required.
- Monitors the activities of the shelter residents ensuring safety and compliance with shelter rules; checks the security and monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of facility and records any unique situations.
- Answers telephone and responds to questions regarding the shelter operations
- Assists in preparing and serving meals to residents as well as cleaning kitchen and dining area.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- and
- one year experience performing security work or working in a social service environment,
- or
- any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
License & Certifications:
- None.

- Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients in order to control, and motivate behavior.
- Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behavior.
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper procedures.
- Working requires performance of duties in social services environment where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible.
