Schedule/Hours - 40 hours/Exempt

Plans, develops, coordinates, maintains, improves and supervises the day-to-day divisional communication operations with the purpose of improving both internal and public awareness and support for programs and services that advance the Army’s mission; provides the capacity to enhance evangelism, strengthen community relations, provide better public information, forge stronger media relations, and in general raise the standards of communications assistance around the division; designs, develops and presents promotional materials using multi-media formats; supports local Command staff responsible for serving as a liaison with the media with regard to the promotion of Salvation Army events, services, disaster relief, etc.; develops and maintains an effective communication plan to manage the Army’s image as well as any adverse public relations events and keeps internal and external audiences informed on Salvation Army activity during disaster and/or crises events; supervises assigned support staff responsible for providing technical assistance in multi-media communications including the fast growing area of web and social media communications.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements. 
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate well the English language. 
  • Ability to serve as a spokesperson for The Salvation Army in print, on radio, and television, and speak before large groups in person. 
  • Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc. 
  • Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. 
  • Occasional Disaster site and mission field visits where extreme conditions could be experienced. 
  • Works requires regular travel within the Division as well as the occasional need to visit other divisions or THQ. 
  • Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field is required with a Masters Preferred,
  • and
  • Five years progressively responsible experience administering a variety of internal and external communications functions for a large organization,
  • or
  • any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications:

  • Valid State Drivers' License 
  • CDL License a plus
