What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian (6157) position at THE SALVATION ARMY?
Schedule/Hours: Part - time (Less than 20 hours per week)
This position is responsible for:
Maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors at the Salvation Army building and grounds: promoting health and safety. Duties include picking up and taking out trash, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning and stocking bathrooms, making sure buildings are secure, cleaning windows and mirrors, and performing minor building repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies. Sweeps, vacuums, mops, strips, buffs and waxes floors:
- Cleans windows, dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures. Empties trash cans daily, collects trash from grounds, and sweeps outside walkways.
- Monitors and evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports.
- Opens/closes building, as scheduled or needed. Assists in monitoring light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order and replaces light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles as necessary.
- Assists in performing building maintenance, painting and repair work. Cleans and maintains the swimming pool, gymnasium and surrounding areas.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (over 50lbs.) materials, supplies and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
- The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions with activities occurring inside and outside. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to extreme cold and heat with temperatures typically below 32° or above 100° for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity. The worker is subject to noise; and there is enough noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise level. Work is subject to hazards. Work includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- High School diploma or G.E.D AND
- One year experience performing general housekeeping duties. OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
