What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Mechanic (5767) position at THE SALVATION ARMY?
Schedule/Hours: M– F 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week)
This position is responsible for:
Performs variety of skilled maintenance work for the building and grounds including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and carpentry work as well as routine maintenance and repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform minor repairs to air conditioning system as required and ensure general maintenance of system.
- Install electrical conduit, wiring, switching devices, controls, outlets, fixtures, motors, and other such equipment.
- Inspect, test, adjust, and repair all physical plant machinery, heating, cooling, piping, and electrical systems, and records maintenance with schedules.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles, dishwashers, laundry machine, vents fans, ect; performs minor adjustments; lubricates and cleans vehicles and /or equipment.
- Constructs and repairs building structures, walls, floors, ceiling, cabinets, and furniture.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in at least two of building, electrical, or mechanical.
- Knowledge of plumbing, electoral, construction, air conditioning, equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade involved.
- Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in the trade involved.
- Bility to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments
- Ability to follow instructions and work with little to no supervision
- Ability to meet attendance requirements
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
- Ability to perform heavy lifting
- Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting, and carrying of heavy objects
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
- Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as cold, rain, snow, heat, or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

EDUCATON AND EXPERIENCE:
- Two years course work from a technical school or vocational school in construction, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, as well plumbing and eclectics,
AND; three years of experience performing maintenance and repair work for commercial building and grounds, OR;
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid state driver license is required.
Qualified certification in one of the following fields:
Air conditioning
Electrical
Plumbing
Carpentry
Mechanics
