What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Divisional Director Of Emergency Services (3282) position at THE SALVATION ARMY?

Schedule/Hours: Full Time, Exempt

This position is responsible for:

Assists the Divisional Disaster Services Director with the development, coordination and implementation of disaster services including planning, directing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the provision of Division-wide emergency disaster services; establishes and maintains appropriate inventory of supplies and ensures the readiness of all disaster equipment; responds to disasters in an organized and timely manner by establishing an Incident Command Post and liaisons with local units and with the State of Texas; prepares reports during and at the end of the disaster project.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively and clearly.
  • Ability to independently travel to various locations to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc
  • Ability to conduct presentations and training sessions.
  • Ability to work in difficult and demanding disaster settings/locations.
  • Ability to remain open, sensitive, and responsive to volunteers from diverse cultures without discrimination.
  • Ability to serve as a Christ-like example and to demonstrate compassion to all people.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate cars, trucks (automatic and standard)
  • Ability to perform work at higher elevations including while standing on ladders/step stools.
  • Ability to perform work at night and/or while in dark environments with extreme noise levels and temperatures as needed.
  • Typically, work is performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like but not limited to an office environment.  However, work can require independent travel both within the state of Texas and throughout the country to conduct training and presentations, and deployment for disaster events where there may be physical discomforts associated with driving a vehicle, traveling by airplane, weather changes, staying overnight in a hotel and/or base camp situations for extended periods of time
  • May be exposed to various types of hazards including but not limited to: forest or range fires, floods, hurricane, tornados, snow/ice storms, droughts, technological hazards such as major transportation accidents, oil spills, industrial fires, explosions, fixed nuclear accidents, hazardous material spills, man- made hazards (such as wars, terrorist attacks, civil unrest, outages of energy-producing resources).

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or a related field, and
  • Five years supervisory experience planning, preparing, and actually facilitating the provision of disaster services,
  • or
  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver License
  • FEMA Professional Development Series Certification (or ability to obtain within established time frame)
  • Certified EDS Instructor (or ability to complete the Trainer the Trainer course within a required time frame
  • Certified First Aid, CPR, and AED Instructor (or ability to complete the Train the Trainer course within a required timeframe).
  • AEM/CEM Certification (or ability to complete within a required timeframe).
