EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- High School Graduate and college student preferred
- Counseling experience and be able to develop creative program ideas
- Self-motivation, good communication and people skills are also necessary
- Experience working with children preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Pass a background check
- Command the respect of children under your supervision
- Possess good leadership skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of child/personnel safety assessment, planning, problem solving and crisis intervention.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite
- Copier and other related office equipment use helpful
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain cleanliness and order of your person and living quarters
- Participate in Camp clean up as needed; end of each camp session and Summer season
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings
- Participate in all camp programs as required
- Follow standards for program, safety, and health concerns
- Other duties as assigned
- Live in an assigned cabin with approximately ten children
- Provide leadership/supervision for each camp session
- Ensure that campers maintain a high standard of personal and living quarters cleanliness
- Participate in worship services, evening programs, campfires, carnivals, hikes, cookouts, and other program activities
- Provide leadership and guidance to campers on participation in the total camp program
- Provide close supervision of camper health and safety at all times
- Communication with all support staff (Program Director, Camp Nurse, etc.) is essential.
- Maintain a quiet and organized table during mealtimes
- Encourage communication and reinforce good eating habits and proper nutrition
- Promote the best possible camping program for the children
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and living; serve as role model for campers
- To participate actively in the Camp Gifford Orientation
- Plan and follow through with daily group devotions with campers
- Encourage the campers to actively participate in spiritually oriented activities.
- Promote a joyous and comfortable Christian experience as through personal witness
- Encourage, not pressure the campers to find a personal relationship with Christ
- Be sensitive to expected differences in religious and social upbringing
- Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
- Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
- Operate telephone
- Operate a desktop or laptop computer
- Lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
- Access and produce information from a computer
- Understand written information
