ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Schedule/Hours: Varying Schedules, including weekends and evenings. Seasonal and Regular schedule availability.
Pay Rate: $16-$19 per hour
This position is responsible for:
Performs a wide variety of support functions to ensure the safety, security, comfort, and wellbeing of Salvation Army emergency shelter and inclement weather shelter clients. Ensures clients adhere to house rules. Monitors building security. Performs light housekeeping duties to ensure orderly, clean common areas.
Responsible for entering inclement weather shelter client information into a homeless information database.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitors the activities of shelter clients, ensuring their safety, comfort, and compliance with house rules.
Supports inclement weather shelter operations, to include preparing sleeping and dining areas prior to shelter opening; maintaining an orderly client check-in waiting line; conducting the client intake process; distributing items for clients’ personal use like blankets; cleaning the sleeping and dining areas as needed throughout the shift.
Follows Salvation Army client intake procedure. Conducts and/or ensures a shelter census is taken at prescribed times. Ensures all clients are accounted for when they exit the shelter.
Maintains a log of all shelter incidents and emergencies.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a shelter facility where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU
High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred, AND
One year experience performing security or social service work preferred, OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
CPR Preferred
