LOCATION: Phoenix Family Services

STATUS: FTE/40hrs/wk (Schedule may flex to meet client/shelter needs)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in related field strongly preferred
  • Experience may substitute for a degree on a 2:1 basis
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable
  • Minimum one year experience in social service setting
  • Experience with Excel Spreadsheets and Word documents
  • Experience in working with homeless and low-income families
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a collaborative team
  • Excellent working knowledge of local community resources
  • Must have good tracking and follow-up skills
  • Must demonstrate appropriate time management skills
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Able to maintain a non-judgement attitude, professional approach and boundaries with clients
  • Able to handle crisis/emergency services for the homeless and to utilize crisis intervention & conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to assess at risk participants and situations
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive client data
  • Must possess a current Arizona Drivers' License and have a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass internal vehicle safety e-learning module

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and triage clients preparing initial interview/intake information and (in cooperation with program supervisors) make client option recommendations
  • Assist in maintaining an accurate information stream that meets the needs of program participants and funding sources
  • Coordinate and/or conduct group and individual intake meetings with new program participants to explain shelter policies and procedures.
  • Work with program supervisors to ensure that all clients are treated fairly and with compassion
  • Ability to exercise mature and sound judgment as well as good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Responsible for the daily log of persons who come to TSA for assistance, ensuring that our screening meets the needs of the applicant for each program and funding sources
  • Regular, timely statistical reporting is required
  • Ensure that data entry is accurate and timely for access by the program supervisors as needed
  • Represent The Salvation Army when interfacing with social service agencies, clients, program participants and other groups as necessary and/or assigned
  • Ability to manage crisis situations with minimum supervision and to set and observe appropriate personal limits and boundaries.
  • Liaison with probation officers, law enforcement, substance use counselors, foster agencies, and other community groups for intake of potential program participants.
  • Attend staff meetings as assigned
  • Participate in seasonal program as directed by supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned, as they relate to the position of Intake Coordinator

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
