The Salvation Army Mission: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Summary/Primary Purpose: To represent The Salvation Army by ringing bell at assigned kettle location in order to raise needed funds for the services provided to individuals and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Report to work promptly as scheduled.
  2. Work in all weather conditions (rain, sleet, snow, cold).
  3. Work minimum of 4 hours, maximum of 8 hours per shift and maximum of 40 hours per week.
  4. Stay at assigned kettle, ringing the bell. One 15-minute break will be allowed every 4 hours. A

30-minute break will be allowed for shifts of 6 or more hours.

  1. Represent The Salvation Army and its programs.
  2. Responsible for kettle, stand and bell at assigned location.
  3. Call supervisor on duty if Bell Ringer needs to leave shift early for any reason.
  4. Remain at work site until relieved of duties by another Salvation Army staff member.
  5. Represent The Salvation Army by dressing and behaving appropriately.
  6. Wear bell ringing apron while working which identifies me as a Salvation Army bell ringer.
  7. Greet public as they pass the work site.
  8. Be cordial and polite to the public. Smile, make eye contact and greet people with "Thank you,

"Merry Christmas," or other appropriate greeting.

  1. Remain alert and aware of your surroundings, never taking the kettle off the stand.
  2. All monetary donations must be placed into kettle by the donor themselves. Bell Ringers are not

allowed to handle cash or coins.

  1. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and/or entire shift.
  2. Follow Corps policies and procedures.

Must Not:

  1. Leave kettle unattended unless on break.
  2. Possess or use tobacco, gum, alcohol, weapons or illegal drugs.
  3. Eat or be on cell phone or text while on duty.
  4. Be distracted (conversations with friends, shopping, etc.).
  5. Use profanity or become argumentative with the public.
  6. Take money for personal use.
  7. Fail to follow all procedures and policies

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or GED preferred but not required. Experience working with the public is desired.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  1. Must be clean, neat and well groomed.
  2. Dressed appropriately for the location and weather.
  3. A smiling, friendly and cheerful attitude.
  4. Prompt and consistent in attendance.
  5. Responsible for items assigned (kettles, equipment, etc) to your care.
  6. Flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  7. A willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Employee will be required to stand for long periods of time and/or the entire shift. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying objects.

Working Conditions: This position requires attending to a kettle stand for long periods of time, be based outside in all kinds of weather and may do some light physical work.
