DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Corps Officers and Operations Manager

FUNCTION OF POSITION

Responsible for planning, preparation and serving of meals; as needed for corps and community center programming.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible to the Corps Officer and Operations Manager

Qualifications

• An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy and practices
• Experience as a cook, in menu planning, purchasing, and food service
• Ability to accurately figure costs of meals.
• Ability to work independently with good judgment
• Current food handlers certificate
• A valid, in-state license and ability to pass The Salvation Army’s in-house driving test and MVR check
• If an employee owns his/her own vehicle, must possess current auto insurance for instances in which a personal vehicle is used on TSA time and/or business. Please note that TSA adheres to the federal standards regarding mileage reimbursement.
  
  

Summary Of Duties And Responsibilities

• Plan nutritious meals using food that is donated, commodities or purchased.
• Handle the purchasing of food as needed
• Process paperwork necessary to purchase items through the bookkeeping department.
• Supervise senior volunteers as kitchen helpers and servers
• Supervise kitchen employees
• Oversee the cleaning of the kitchen to be sure that Public Health Department regulations are followed
• See that the kitchen is maintained in a safe manner
• Oversee the proper storage of food and supplies
• Work with Senior Center Director to plan meals for special events (i.e. Thanksgiving, Mothers Day etc.) and monthly menus.
• Work with Social Services Director to determine what product may be used for program.
• Responsible for Homework Center snack and special Corps functions.
• Any other duties related to the running of the meal program that may be assigned
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to grasp and have full range of motion in fingers and hands.
• Must have the ability to withstand warmer than average temperatures.
• Must have the ability to read and comprehend the English language.
• Must have 50% hearing capabilities.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.
