Location: Chattanooga Metropolitan Area Command – Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Position: Regular Full Time Correctional Duty Officer, Residential Re-Entry Center
Pay Rate: $16.84/hour.
About This Opportunity
Maintains custody, control and accountability of the high-risk population of Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Federal inmates assigned to the Residential Reentry Center (RRC). The primary duty is to supervise, observe, report and record inappropriate behavior, to generate and maintain relevant records, to ensure the safety of staff, inmates and the community through established accountability procedures for inmates housed both in the RRC as well as for inmates on Home Detention.

About This Opportunity

The primary duty is to supervise, observe, report and record inappropriate behavior, to generate and maintain relevant records, to ensure the safety of staff, inmates and the community through established accountability procedures for inmates housed both in the RRC as well as for inmates on Home Detention.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises and monitors the activities of inmates ensuring safety and compliance with established laws, rules and regulations. Produces reports and records of inappropriate behavior.
- Makes periodic, random rounds of the facility; records any incidents occurring on assigned shift by use of inmate incident reports or on logs. Facilitates and records headcounts to ensure inmate accountability.
- Obtains urine specimens and tests for alcohol use by inmates, using specified procedures.
- Documents resident movement for both in-house inmates and inmates on Home Detention.
- Conducts pat, wand, room and vehicle searches for detection and deterrence of contraband. Documents results of searches.
- Makes and receives phone calls for inmate accountability.
- Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Contacts proper emergency services for persons requiring emergency treatment.
- Monitors Center activities by use of video surveillance camera system.
- Secures, distributes and records inmate medication(s) in accordance with established procedures.
- Checks inmates in and out of the facility and records inmate whereabouts on sign in/sign out and movement sheets.
- Ensures that inmates perform assigned cleaning tasks in a proper manner.
- Monitors and supervises visitors entering and leaving the facility.
- Takes proper action in case of fire/tornado alarms and documents such.
- Uses interpersonal skills rather than physical force to control inmates. Documents any incidents requiring physical force and reports these to the Director.
- Interfaces with inmates with mental and physical disabilities.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. and one year experience performing correctional, security or social service work preferred., OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Work is an office environment where there are limited physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
