Job Title: Divisional Director of Gift PlanningFLSA Status: Full Time - exemptReports to: Divisional Director of DevelopmentSchedule: Exempt - 40 hours Rate of Pay: $100,000 - $110,000 annually based on experienceClosing Date: 3/5/2026Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:Health, vision, dental, life as well as voluntary life and disability insuranceSick leave benefit – 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire)Vacation benefit – 20 vacation days per year, accrued at the rate of .0769 hours for each hour worked (accrual begins at hire but may not be used until the completion of six months of employment)One floating day off for use (accrued immediately, and again annually, but may not be used until the completion of the initial three-month introductory period of employment)Pension Plan (after one year of continuous service)Voluntary Tax-Deferred Annuity Plan (403(b)plan)POSITION SUMMARY:The Director of Gift Planning (‘DGP”) leads, develops, implements and coordinates all phases of the Gift Planning Program within the Division for maximum success with planned gifts generation and gift closures. The DGP is responsible for: cultivating, stewarding and soliciting planned gift donors and prospects; engaging them in philanthropic planning conversations that effectively consider their charitable goals, family needs, assets, tax considerations, and optimal planned gift instruments; and encouraging and assisting them with making planned and complex outright gifts. The DGP will use their specialized gift planning knowledge to evaluate and manage donor’s expectations, goals and financial situations in order to recommend optimal gifting options.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSA preference for candidates with an advanced degree or certification such as, CertifiedFinancial Planner (“CFP”), MBA, JD, CPA or CSPG.Minimum five (5) years of experience in charitable gift planning or in related areas of finance,trust management, sales or law.Familiarity with gift illustration software programs such as Crescendo or PG Calc.Ability to develop creative solutions and have entrepreneurial skills are a plus.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, finance or other related field.Demonstrated ability to close principal gift plans at the six and seven figure level.Comfortability with technical conversations involving financial or legal concepts.Ability to communicate effectively with staff and ability to delegate.Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong public speaking skills.Ability to simplify complex issues and communicate these to a wide range of audiences.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.Ability to work with persons of varied socio-economic backgrounds.Ability to operate standard office equipment in an efficient and effective manner.Ability to present oneself in a professional manner.Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information and documentation.Be a self-starter and goal oriented.Ability to work independently.Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.SOFTWARE RELATED SKILLS:Advanced ability in MS Office including Excel, Word, Powerpoint and other Microsoft software.Ability to use electronic media. Advanced knowledge of integrated database applications.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintain personal responsibility for between 75 – 150 existing planned gift donors.Maintain annual stewardship for all living bequest donors within your area.Maintain and build relationships with professionals such as, CPAs, CFPs, and Attorneys.Make 10-15 strategic/substantive visits per month (donor, prospect or advisor visits).Present 40-50 gift planning proposals per year.Years 1-3: Identify or close twenty-four (24) plus gifts per year valued between $2.5M-$5M.Years 3 : Identify or close fifty (50) plus gifts per year valued between $5M-$10M(Gifts and commitments include life income gifts, bequest intentions & outright gifts).Promote, organize & participate in three (3) or more donor or advisor seminars per year.Collaborate with Officers and development staff to provide donors with exceptional service andcollaborate with site visits / donor visits.Develop and provide to management annual forecasts for production of gift activity.Develop and provide to management a multichannel marketing plan for your area annually.Report activities and production on the approved territorial Salvation Army Metrics Reports.Submit Completed Gift Reports monthly to Territorial Headquarters for review and approval.Keep up-to-date on all appropriate tax laws relating to gift planning.Be familiar with and remain current on various gift planning tools and agreements.Promote, encourage and engage in joint DRD (major gifts) /DGP donor events. Give full-time to Gift Planning. Functions such as public relations, major gift development,foundations and corporation appeals are the responsibility of other personnel.Participate in training programs conducted by Territorial Gift Planning Department. When asked, and approved by their divisional management, serve on Territorial committees.Examples include but are not limited to: Metrics Committee or other ad hoc committees formed for the good of The Salvation Army planned giving program.Work within the established framework, policies and organization of the Division and Territory.To accomplish this, s/he will:a. Conduct activities within the framework of the territorial gift acceptance policiesb. Adhere to all territorial standards and policies in regard to the Gift Planning programc. Work closely with the Territorial Director of Gift Planing in the development and closingof complex gift planning arrangementsd. Refrain from signing on behalf of The Salvation Army any legal commitmentse. Refrain from any direct personal gain as a result of donor contacts. Accept no gratuitiesor gifts and allow no bequest or remainder interest to be designated to the individualrepresenting The Salvation Army. Other duties as assigned.DrivingIf the position requires driving:A minimum age of 21 (for insurance provision) and possession of a valid in-state driver’s license is required.An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies.Background CheckContinued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
