What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at The Salvation Army Central Territory?
- Perform day-to-day accounting functions of revenues (receipting) accounts payable and ledgers.
- Maintain cash control logs and issue weekly reports to Corps Officer
- File monthly sales tax returns for units timely
- Prepare and input journal entries following established accounting procedures
- Perform bank account reconciliations for non-assigned locations
- Provide and maintain Teams access to monthly/annual closing reports and analysis files
- Make adjustments to Temporarily Restricted Assets and maintain analysis files
- Coordinate and balance with Grant and Contract Accountant on a monthly basis
- Review ledgers associated with related funds and accounts
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
- Prepare monthly financial statements to be reviewed by the Assistant Controller with final completion by the 15th of the month
- Prepare financial summary reports for Corps Officers presentations to Advisory and Corps Councils
- Prepare annual closing entries, analysis and reports according to GAAP
- Coordinate and prepare audit schedules
- Assist in budget preparation and enter annual and revised corps/unit budgets into accounting software
- Prepare written reviews of the budgeted variances on a monthly and as needed basis
- Maintain records within established Salvation Army policies and procedures
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Strong computer proficiency with spreadsheets and accounting software
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision
- A collaborative spirit, sound judgment, and a commitment to confidentiality
- Must pass an accounting skills test
