The Quincy Salvation Army Emergency Shelter is seeking dedicated Shelter Monitors to help provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. No prior social work experience? No problem! If you bring empathy, kindness, and a genuine desire to help, we’ll provide the training you need to succeed.
Position Details
- Pay Rate: $17.00/hour, with an additional $1.00/hour for overnight shifts.
- Shifts: Flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Status: Full-time, 40hours/week.
- Monitor the shelter premises to ensure safety and security for all clients and staff.
- Maintain a welcoming and supportive environment while upholding shelter rules and policies.
- Complete intake forms for new clients and update client files as needed.
- Assist clients with access to basic needs like food, linens, and/or hygiene products.
- Respond to client concerns, providing emotional support and referrals for services as appropriate.
- Report any incidents, safety concerns, or facility maintenance needs to management.
- Maintain shelter journals, logs, and other records including incident reports and referrals.
- Answer phone calls, take messages, and relay information to appropriate staff members.
- Assist in light custodial tasks including cleaning common areas, restocking supplies, and maintaining the shelter's cleanliness.
- Prepare and serve meals to clients as required.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed and improve service delivery.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Previous social work or related experience is helpful but not required.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with diverse individuals.
- Attitude: Compassionate, nonjudgmental, and professional in handling sensitive situations.
- Capabilities: Ability to work independently, maintain composure, and problem-solve under pressure.
- Additional: Basic cooking, cleaning, and computer skills for record-keeping and daily tasks.
