There are thousands of children who rely on free or reduced lunch during the school year, and when school ends many would go hungry without help. Feed The Kids is a 10-week summer meals program for children living in Milwaukee’s underserved neighborhoods. About 1,500 meals are distributed Monday-Friday, June-August, to 21 different neighborhoods, parks, and street corners on Milwaukee’s north and south side. The meal consists of a sandwich, fruit, snack, and juice or water. The Salvation Army has provided more than 2 million meals through the Feed The Kids program since 1990. This is a seasonal position. Employment dates are from June 22 through August 21, 2026; Monday through Friday from 9:15 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. (Times may be adjusted due to work volume.)
The Feed the Kids Driver will drive a Salvation Army vehicle transporting meals and youth on the Feed the Kids program team to established drop-off sites. Keep track of the number of meals distributed at each site.
About the role:
- Drive a Salvation Army vehicle; Monday through Friday, to transport meals to established meal sites.
- Ensure proper safety of passengers and the vehicle.
- Assist with the loading of meals into the vehicle in preparation of delivery.
- Be responsible for properly distributing meals at sites. Ensure that all children 18 and under stay at the meal site to consume the meal.
- Keep daily records identifying the number of meals distributed at each site, including providing daily reports and records to the Community Outreach Manager at the end of each day.
- Assist with unloading containers and supplies upon return to the distribution center.
- Ensure vehicle is cleaned daily.
- Complete all mileage logs and vehicle reports daily.
- Work together with all staff and volunteers associated with the Feed the Kids program.
Education and Experience/ Skills and Requirements:
- Have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and be approved to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good verbal skills
- Good public relations skills
- Ability to lift at least fifty pounds
- Act in a manner consistent with The Salvation Army Mission Statement to ensure effective delivery of services
