What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Social Services (CIAC) position at THE SALVATION ARMY CENTRAL TERRITORY?

Job Objective:
This position provides support and guidance to all Social Service Programs within the Central Indiana Area Command (hereafter CIAC). The CIAC Director of Social Services ensures that programs reflect and carry out the mission of The Salvation Army, while operating within its policies and procedures.
What you will do:
- Act as consultant for corps- and center-based social services programming in all CIAC locations, meeting regularly (minimum of one time a month) with the caseworkers, in coordination with the corps officers and center directors
- Represent The Salvation Army at appropriate networking opportunities within Central Indiana, ensuring the need for existing programs, observing and assessing community needs, and recommending programmatic changes to ensure the relevance and mission effectiveness of The Salvation Army in the community
- Collaborate with the Pathway of Hope Regional Coordinator to ensure full implementation in the CIAC locations
- In conjunction with the Divisional Social Services Director and the Central Indiana Area Commander, act as liaison with the United Way of Central Indiana
- Attend meetings of the Advisory Councils of assigned locations, as well as the meetings of the Indianapolis Advisory Board
- Provide information regarding CIAC Social Service programming to the CIAC Development Team and relevant representatives of Divisional Development Team to facilitate approaching funding sources
- Serve as a member of the CIAC Leadership Team
- Assist leadership in strategic planning, staff training and development plans and timelines
- Identify potential governmental funding opportunities for CIAC locations, working with appropriate individuals at the unit and/or at Divisional Headquarters to respond to requests for proposals
- Assist all CIAC locations to ensure compliance with all funding contracts, Salvation Army documentation and reporting standards, accrediting bodies, ethical codes, etc., in conjunction with divisional staff as appropriate
- Receive and respond to client z and other grievances regarding social services within the CIAC, keeping the Area Commander informed.
- In coordination with the Divisional Social Services Director and THQ evaluate all social services programs located in the CIAC.
- Work with the Area Commander and CIAC staff to ensure the successful completion of seasonal programs, including Toy Shop and Coats for Kids
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Area Commander
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education: Masters Degree in Social Work or closely related field required
Background Checks: Position requires background checks to be completed; findings may disqualify an individual for this position
Experience: Minimum of five years working in a social services agency required with at least two years of experience in Indianapolis or a similar city with agencies servicing those experiencing chronic poverty, homelessness, and/or addictions
Certifications: Must have a valid license or obtain it within 30 days of employment and maintain The Salvation Army’s driver’s qualification standard. Completion of the Case Manager Certification Program within 30 days of employment
Skills/Abilities:
- Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel and those who seek services from The Salvation Army.
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of data entry and processes with SIMS, Client Track, and other databases required for tracking demographics and services in the division
Supervisory Responsibility: Position provides supervision for the Angel Tree Coordinator, Case Manager in Hamilton County and CIAC Outreach and Marketing Manager.

Travel: Extensive travel within Central Indiana required with occasional travel outside of this area for training and assigned responsibilities at Territorial Headquarters
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment, requiring some weekend and evening work, extensive local driving required. Seasonal work within a warehouse environment should also be expected.
