What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual Community Educator - KidSafeHQ position at The Rowan Center?
Overview of The Rowan Center & KidSafeHQ:
The Rowan Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual violence and providing prevention education throughout Lower Fairfield County. For nearly 50 years, we have provided crisis counseling, advocacy, education, and long-term healing services in a trauma-informed, inclusive, and survivor-centered manner.
In addition to our prevention and crisis response work, The Rowan Center operates the Trauma Recovery Practice, offering long-term therapy and EMDR-based treatment for survivors of any form of trauma across Connecticut.
KidSafeHQ is The Rowan Center’s statewide digital safety platform designed to equip parents and caregivers with the tools they need to protect children from online and offline harm, including sextortion, grooming, cyberbullying, deepfakes, and digital exploitation. The platform combines expert insights, local law enforcement guidance, and trusted resources to help families navigate today’s rapidly changing digital world.
Position Overview:
You will be responsible for both managing and evolving the platform and bringing it to life in the community, particularly with parents and caregivers. The work is split between maintaining a high-quality, up-to-date live digital platform and directly engaging with the people it’s built for. What you hear from parents, schools, and community partners should directly shape what lives on the platform and how it evolves. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable working across content, technology, and community engagement, and who can move easily between those spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
KidSafeHQ Platform & Content
- Manage and maintain the KidSafeHQ platform and The Rowan Center website, working with developers and designers to make changes to the live environment when needed
- Create, edit, and organize parent-facing content including safety guides, alerts, FAQs, and resource directories
- Regularly update content to reflect emerging risks, including AI-driven threats, sextortion trends, and evolving social media platforms
- Ensure content is clear, practical, and tailored by age and developmental stage
- Monitor platform engagement and identify opportunities to improve usability and relevance
Community Education & Engagement
- Deliver workshops, presentations, and conversations primarily for parents and caregivers, as well as schools and community groups
- Facilitate live Q&A sessions tied to real-time concerns and platform content
- Foster relationships with local law enforcement, school superintendents, parent-teacher organizations (PTOs), teacher unions, and national experts in online safety to expand the platform’s reach and credibility.
- Continually expand and maintain relationships with experts in the fields of child safety, prevention education, AI, and child development
- Use community insights and real-world questions to continuously inform and strengthen KidSafeHQ content
Technology, Innovation & Learning
- Support the integration and evolution of AI tools within KidSafeHQ, including Scout, the closed-system AI bot
- Identify opportunities to improve how content is delivered and impact is accessed on the platform
- Stay current on trends in online safety, digital threats, and child protection policies through continuous learning and professional development
Data, Feedback & Growth
- Track engagement and effectiveness of educational materials, including conducting surveys and assessments, and provide quarterly data reports on impact
- Contribute to reporting on reach and impact
- Bring forward ideas to strengthen both digital and in-person engagement
Team & Crisis Response
- Complete 40-hour sexual assault crisis counselor training
- Provide coverage on the 24/7 helpline, including hospital and police accompaniments (must be able to reach Greenwich, Stamford, or Norwalk within 40 minutes)
- Participate in staff meetings, events, organizational initiatives, and other requests when needed to support The Rowan Center
- Wear many hats in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible and adaptable as both The Rowan Center and KidSafeHQ evolves and expands
- Work flexible hours, including evening and weekend shifts, depending on program schedules and events
Skillset:

- Strong working knowledge of WordPress, including hands-on experience updating and managing a live website
- Basic HTML and CSS skills preferred (ability to format pages, adjust layout, embed content, and troubleshoot formatting issues)
