The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking a Chief People Officer (CPO) to further develop and execute the organization's talent vision and strategy around to further create a best-in-class People unit aligned with the Foundation's current climate strategy and making opportunity universal and sustainable. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the CPO has responsibility for overseeing the people strategy of the organization. This role requires an empathetic and emotionally intelligent leader. The ideal candidate will be able to understand and respond to the needs and emotions of employees which is crucial for building a positive workplace experience.
The Chief People Officer leads and champions initiatives to foster a thriving work ecosystem, curate an enriching organizational culture, and unlock the potential of The Rockefeller Foundation's greatest asset: our people. This leader serves as the guardian of our organizational values and ethos, ensuring alignment with our overarching mission and strategic imperatives. The CPO serves as part of the senior leadership team and oversees the Human Resources department, steering it with a vision that aligns with the objectives and values of The Rockefeller Foundation. This role is central to cultivating and implementing human resource strategies that strengthen the foundation as a magnet for top talent. They will ensure that learning, e-learning, and professional development opportunities are relevant to The Rockefeller Foundation's mission and accessible to all, aiding in the holistic development of our workforce. Their leadership will be pivotal in managing employee relations issues with utmost fairness and transparency, thereby fostering a nurturing and inclusive work environment. The Chief People Officer will play an integral role in enhancing organizational development, and effectiveness and contributing to the realization of the Foundation's aspirations and goals.
The CPO is responsible for developing and executing a global human resources strategy in the areas of talent acquisition, onboarding, career development, performance management, succession planning, retention, training, management/leadership development, workforce strategic planning, employee engagement, and relations, HRIS, HR analytics and reporting, compensation, benefits, culture, and values. The CPO provides strategic leadership by articulating HR needs and plans.
Pay Range: $356,000- $497,000. This represents the present low and high end of the Foundation’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience.
Work Schedule: This role is on a hybrid work schedule, and required to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Culture Shaping
- Oversee and execute innovative strategies that enrich organizational learning, culture, development, and values, and enhance employee experience and satisfaction.
- Inspirational leadership and direction to the department's team members, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Serve as a strategic partner with the executive/senior leadership team to establish a sound plan of management success planning that corresponds to the strategy and objectives of the Foundation.
- Oversee strategies for The Rockefeller Foundation to thrive across a hybrid and global workforce.
Strategic People Management & Development
- Design and facilitate special executive/senior leadership meetings and retreats. Evaluate training and development programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
- Oversee talent management, development, and retention frameworks that align with and propel the organization's strategic objectives and cultural ethos.
- Drive the evolution of performance management processes, cultivating an environment of empowerment, accountability, and excellence.
- Oversee comprehensive learning and development programs to cultivate talent and fuel professional growth.
- Serve as a steward of modern thought leadership. Understand how the Foundation is evolving and consider the implications of the Foundation's strategy for the internal learning and development agenda.
- Serve as the ambassador for culture and learning to ensure the sharing and adoption of best practices and innovations.
Compensation, Benefits & Well-being
- Oversee comprehensive benefits programs that are competitive and cost-effective, including health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
- Oversee the annual compensation reviews for all employees and all RF regions in addition to executive compensation review and reporting of findings and recommendations to the BOD.
- Committee Chair for informed decision-making.
- Oversee market analysis and benchmarking to maintain competitiveness and attract top talent while collaborating with finance and other relevant departments to ensure the sustainability and fiscal responsibility of compensation strategies.

- Establish talent acquisition strategies to build strong pipelines for future hiring needs, ensuring a steady supply of diverse and qualified candidates. Oversee the life-cycle recruitment process on a global scale.
Employee Relations & Engagement Architecture
- Oversee the resolution of employee relations issues, fortifying a positive, transparent, and respectful work environment.
- Oversee and refine employee engagement strategies to bolster organizational cohesion and culture.
- Establish and oversee employee feedback strategy and leverage insights and analytics to guide organizational development, culture, and human resource initiatives.
Legal Compliance & Ethical Governance
- Ensure impeccable adherence to legal standards and ethical norms in all people and culture practices and policies.
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Generally expected to have a minimum of 15 years of related experience.
- Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred.
- Experience in a complex and global operating environment and working with a Board of Directors.
- Proven leader with a track record of leading the people agenda and complex change efforts either from a business or HR function.
- A deep understanding and experience in driving transformative change from a culture and business perspective.
- Demonstrated affinity and passion for diversity and inclusion as a key part of organizational culture and sustaining through aligned HR programs, policies, and practices.
- Breadth and depth in People Management to ensure effectiveness, high return on People investments, and strong alignment with business strategies.
- Able to Influence organizational design and development experience.
- Working knowledge of regulations concerning the financial management of non-profit organizations is preferred.
