Postdoctoral fellow in chromatin and RNA biology

The RNA Society
Indiana, PA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/10/2026
Posted on: May 11, 2026

The Motamedi Laboratory in the MGB Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to carry out NIH-funded research in fission yeast. The lab investigates how changes in eukaryotic chromatin are made, maintained and propagated, and how these changes establish alternative cellular states particularly in response to persistent stress. The successful candidate will join ongoing projects focused on RNA-mediated chromatin regulation, lncRNA silencers, and heterochromatin biology in stressed and non-stressed cells. The work will use fission yeast as a primary model system and will involve a combination of genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, and other omics-based approaches. Representative publications related to the projects include (Khanduja et al, Cell 2024; PMID 38815580), (Joh et al PLoS Comp Biol 2024; PMID 38598558), and (Joh et al Mol Cell 2016; PMID 27984744). The fellow will hold academic appointments at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and will join a collaborative and rigorous research environment with strong opportunities for scientific development and career advancement.

Qualifications

Applicants should have, or expect to soon obtain, a Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or a related field. Recent graduates are preferred. A strong publication record and evidence of research productivity are expected. Prior experience in one or more research areas, including yeast biology, chromatin regulation, RNA biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics (or large-scale dataset generation and analysis) is desirable. Experience in computational analysis of genomic datasets is a plus but not required.
