The Rivers School — a 6-12 co-ed independent day school in Weston, MA, just outside Boston — seeks professionals who are looking to join a dynamic, innovative, and welcoming school community.
The School Nurse is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Health Office, ensuring a safe, organized, and responsive environment while delivering student health services. This role provides direct student care and oversees Health Office operations, maintaining a well-functioning and student-centered clinical space.
The School Nurse manages student health needs, maintains accurate and compliant health records, and collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and families to support student well-being and promote a safe and healthy learning environment.
This position reports to the Lead School Nurse and plays a key role in implementing health policies, supporting school-wide initiatives, and responding to both routine and emergent health concerns. The School Nurse partners closely with the Lead School Nurse, who oversees program-wide care coordination and strategic planning. The role is typically performed during regular school hours, with occasional flexibility required for staggered coverage, special events, and school-related travel (e.g., field trips or overnight programs).This is a 12 month position- serving as a nurse when school is in session from the end of August through the beginning of June. Then transitioning to be the summer camp nurse from mid-June through mid-August.
During the academic school year, hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm. During the summer camp schedule, hours are Monday through Friday, 8-4pm

Key Responsibilities
Health Office Operations & Clinical Care
Manage the daily operations of the Health Office to ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment
Provide first aid, assessment, and emergency care for student illness and injury
Administer medications in accordance with school policy and physician/parent orders
Monitor and maintain medication inventory, including expiration tracking
Manage telehealth scheduling and designated space
Maintain and order Health Office supplies, including student support items (e.g., snack bar)
Student Health Management
Develop and implement Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies)
Provide ongoing monitoring and support for students with medical, mental health, or temporary conditions (e.g., concussions, injuries)
Support necessary academic and physical accommodations in collaboration with school teams
Conduct health assessments as needed throughout the school day
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student health records in compliance with state regulations and privacy laws
Ensure all required health documentation is completed and reviewed (e.g., Magnus system)
Monitor immunizations and manage communicable diseases in accordance with public health guidelines
Implement infection control practices and maintain a safe clinical environment
Collaboration & Communication
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health needs, care provided, and follow-up recommendations
Collaborate with faculty, staff, counselors, athletic trainers, and the broader Wellness Team
Coordinate with the Lead School Nurse as appropriate for guidance and alignment
Training, Education & Community Health
Support health education for students, staff, and families as needed
Assist with staff training (e.g., EpiPen administration) in collaboration with the Lead Nurse
Participate in school safety planning, including emergency preparedness, bullying prevention, and crisis response
Mentor nursing students as opportunities arise
School Programs & Travel
Coordinate and manage health planning for off-campus experiences, including day trips and overnight travel
Conduct thorough pre-trip health reviews, including identifying student medical needs, allergies, medications, and necessary accommodations
Prepare and organize medical supplies, medications, and documentation for all trips
Provide direct on-trip nursing care if needed
Maintain clear communication with families and school personnel regarding student health needs related to travel
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts
Experience
5–10 years of nursing experience required; pediatric experience preferred
2–5 years of school nursing experience preferred, ideally in an independent school setting
Camp nursing or similar experience strongly preferred
Skills & Knowledge
Current BLS certification
Strong clinical judgment and ability to respond to emergent situations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and school personnel
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to manage confidential information in compliance with privacy laws
Experience with electronic health records (Magnus preferred)
Knowledge of Massachusetts school health regulations and best practices
Certifications
First Aid and CPR certification required
Salary Range: $70,000-$95,000
