Summary of Position

As a Dockhand, you will be a key member of the marina staff, ensuring our guests have an exceptional experience on the water. You will assist with the daily operations of the marina, including boat maintenance, docking, fueling, and customer service. This is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy lake life, working outdoors, and interacting with people.

  9. Maintain the highest level of professionalism in conduct and appearance at all times.
  10. Assist boaters with docking and undocking vessels, ensuring safety and proper procedures are followed.
  11. Fuel boats and perform routine maintenance checks, including checking oil levels, bilge pumps, props and batteries.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dock, marina facilities, and equipment.
  13. Assist with rental boat operations and Freedom Boat Club operations, including preparing boats for guests and instructing them on safe operation.
  14. Provide exceptional customer service to marina guests, answering questions and assisting with any needs.
  15. Monitor weather conditions and communicate important information to guests.
  16. Support marina events and activities as needed.
  17. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and marina policies.
  18. Assist with general maintenance tasks around the resort and marina, such as minor repairs, painting, and landscaping.
  19. Any other duties as assigned by the Dock Supervisor, Director of Operations and/or FBC General Manager

  1. Customer Service Excellence: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships with club members and guests, ensuring their needs are met with a high standard of service.
  2. Safety & Compliance: Knowledge of boating safety regulations, marina compliance standards, and environmental practices to ensure the safe and responsible operation of the club.
  3. Problem-Solving: Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills to quickly address issues ranging from mechanical failures to member concerns.
  4. Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with staff, vendors, club members, and governing bodies.
  5. Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with boating equipment, marina management software, and basic maintenance practices to ensure smooth operations and point of sale (POS) systems.
  6. Adaptability: Flexibility to work in a dynamic, sometimes unpredictable environment, with the ability to adjust to seasonal fluctuations and changing demands.

Work Environment

This position operates in an outdoor environment with exposure to varying weather conditions, including sun, wind, and rain, especially during peak boating season. This position requires being on water and vessels, walking around dry, wet or uneven docks, marinas, and boat storage areas. This position requires being able to swim. Sun protection is required and a required uniform or dress-code must be worn.

 

Physical Demands

This position requires frequent walking, standing, and moving around docks, marinas, and boat storage areas. This position requires being able to swim. The lifting of supplies and equipment that may exceed 50 lbs could also be required. Bending down, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and pushing, pulling are other physical demands that may be required of you. Accepting this job indicates you understand these physical demands and are able to complete the essential functions of the job that required these physical demands.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is an hourly, seasonal position. Due to the nature of the operations, which include weekends, evenings, and holidays, the job can exceed 40 hours and is eligible for overtime.

Qualifications:

Preferred Education and Experience

The following education and experience are required for this position:

  1. High School Education or Equivalent is Required.
  2. Experience in boating or recreation industries required.
  3. CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).
