The Retina Center is a fast-paced retina specialty practice seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable / Medical Billing Specialist to manage insurance billing, AR follow-up, and revenue cycle activities. This role is best suited for professionals who can step into the position with minimal billing training and confidently manage assigned accounts. Entry-level candidates or those requiring extensive billing training may not be a fit for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Submit and manage primary and secondary insurance claims
- Perform insurance verification and ensure clean claim submission
- Conduct accounts receivable follow-up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims via payer portals and phone
- Analyze denials, correct errors, rebill claims, and submit insurance appeals
- Obtain prior authorizations when required
- Identify and correct charge entry, coding, and billing discrepancies
- Post payments, process refunds, and reconcile patient and insurance accounts
- Communicate with insurance carriers, patients, and internal staff regarding billing and collections
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation within the billing and patient record systems
- Assist with copay assistance programs and outstanding patient balance follow-up
- Support front office and phone coverage as needed
