Construction Superintendent Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and manage daily on-site construction activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate all trades and subcontractors, ensuring work is progressing according to schedule.
  • Read, interpret, and produce construction schedules; adjust timelines and manpower as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Maintain a current inspection log and proactively schedule and call for inspections.
  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
  • Communicate with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to provide progress updates and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate material and equipment deliveries with suppliers and vendors.
  • Maintain detailed daily logs, site pictures, and job reports using construction management platforms (e.g., Procore).
  • Monitor job site safety, enforce company safety policies, and correct any unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Hire, assign, and manage construction workers; provide direction and leadership on-site.
  • Implement cost-effective and efficient project management techniques.

 

Construction Superintendent Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Construction Superintendent in residential, commercial, or industrial projects.
  • Ability to read and generate project schedules using tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, and update them as the project progresses.
  • Strong leadership and trade management skills; capable of organizing crews and subcontractors on a daily basis.
  • Maintain quality control.
  • Familiarity with calling in inspections and tracking results through proper documentation.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of email, Microsoft Office Suite, and Procore (or similar construction management software). Additional tech skills are a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety practices.
  • Solid organizational and time management abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable building codes, OSHA regulations, and inspection processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
