Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care by assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts and transfer methods.
- Monitor vital signs and observe patient conditions to promptly report changes to nursing staff.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation and update electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems) in compliance with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Support infection control protocols through aseptic techniques and proper hand hygiene practices during patient interactions.
- Assist with medical procedures including catheter care, medication administration under supervision, and basic life support (BLS) when necessary.
- Facilitate safe patient transfers using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to promote understanding and comfort.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in accordance with state requirements.
- Experience working with diverse populations such as geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring dementia or Alzheimer’s care.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks is preferred; strong computer literacy is a plus.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic nursing procedures including vital signs measurement and CPR certification.
- Prior experience in settings such as long-term care facilities, hospitals (including ICU or trauma centers), hospice, or outpatient clinics is highly desirable.
- Ability to lift heavy loads safely using proper lifting practices and assistive devices like Hoyer lifts.
- Excellent caregiver communication skills with a focus on compassionate patient service.
