What are the responsibilities and job description for the K-12 Site Coordinator position at The Refugee Education Center?
The K-12 Site Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting refugee students holistically and contributes to dismantling the common misconceptions around the capabilities and needs of refugee students. This role is essential to the functioning of the Project Faulu & BRIDGES Programs, serving as the site contact for volunteers, students, and families, and establishing connections between these groups for program participation.
With direction and oversite from the Program Manager, the Site Coordinator uses cross departmental collaboration for program enrollment and function, pairs volunteers with students, ensures the availability and scheduling of transportation and nutritional offerings, and maintains an organized and welcoming space for both students and volunteers. By creating a safe and prepared out-of-school environment for students and volunteers to connect, learn, and develop various skills together to achieve program objectives, the K-12 Site Coordinator helps fulfill REC’s mission.
Job Duties
Program Planning:
- Assist the Program Manager and Coordinator in evaluating, revising, and implementing curriculum and materials to continually meet the needs and interests of students and the capabilities of volunteers in collaboration with the Programs Manager
- Attending training and professional development relevant to the assigned responsibilities of the role, as discussed with and assigned by the Program Manager
Program Support
· Preparing and facilitating aspects of the daily operation of K-12 Programs including preparing curricular materials, administering and recording student assessment results, and maintaining a welcoming program space
· Engaging with students during the program; observing and identifying individual academic strengths/needs; timely communication with Programs Manager for complex needs or situations
· Collaborating with the Programs Manager to create stronger systems of multitiered support to better support the behavioral and social emotional support of our students
· Supporting volunteers with meeting the academic needs of students in small group and larger group settings
· Maintains a safe, clean, and organized environment within our community sites to ensure the success of our program and mutual respect of our community partners
· Supervising students on transportation to and from programs
· Collaborating on ways to ensure a joyful and enriching volunteer experience
· Engaging and supporting community-based events during non-program days or school breaks as deemed appropriate by the Programs Manager
Program Organization:
- Updating all relevant databases and program spreadsheets
- Collaborating with other programs staff on continually improving program organization to better meet program objectives

Desired Qualifications:
· Associate’s degree in education, social work or related field; or Michigan Youth Development Credential (or willingness to obtain. Non-degree holders with lived experience and development are encouraged to apply
· 2 to 4 years of program coordination or related work experience
· Knowledge of education system and/or experience working in OST program
· Understanding of refugee resettlement system and experience
· Experience working with diverse communities – particularly those with a refugee background; ability to show cultural competence across communities served
Required Skills:
· Situational awareness; ability to attune to the needs/experiences of students, including their safety and well-being
· CPR and Basic First Aid certifications or ability to obtain them with renewal every 2 years
· Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organization skills
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to act with integrity, initiative, patience, and confidentiality
· Proficiency in Office 365 Suite

Physical Demand & Working Conditions:
· Position is identified as having regular contact with children in accordance with public law; therefore, a criminal background check and other pre-employment requirements must be completed
· After school/evening availability required, particularly during the school year (September-May)
· Must be able to communicate with clients and staff
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
· Walking, standing, bending, and regularly lifting or carrying medium weight objects
· Regular and predictable attendance is essential for this role

Pay: $17.50 - $20.00 per hour
