The Refuge on Memorial, an emergency shelter for the unhoused in Lynchburg, VA, is seeking a compassionate Social Worker to join our team. This position will play a vital role in providing case management, housing attainment, and community outreach to support clients during their time at the shelter. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to helping individuals obtain and secure housing and mainstream resources and be ready to contribute to our mission of providing a safe, supportive environment for those in need.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of up to 30 clients, offering tailored case management services to meet their unique needs.
- Assist clients in developing individualized housing plans, including referrals to appropriate community resources and services.
- Coordinate with external partners and agencies to facilitate client access to healthcare, housing, employment, and social services.
- Engage in outreach efforts to build partnerships and referral networks to benefit shelter residents.
- Collaborate with shelter staff to ensure a holistic and trauma-informed approach to client care.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with state and organizational regulations.
- Participate in regular team meetings and ongoing professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in social work and case management with vulnerable populations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of community resources and services in Lynchburg and surrounding areas.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in social work or a comparable field is preferred but not required if the candidate has proven and adequate experience
