Job Overview
The Reading Room is seeking passionate, customer-focused individuals with intermediate hospitality and serving experience to join our team. Our employees play a key role in creating an inviting and enriching atmosphere for our guests by providing exceptional service, preparing high-quality beverages, and curating personalized book recommendations. Key Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming environment for guests and ensure a high level of customer service.
- Take orders and deliver beverages and light food items to tables.
- Maintain a clean and organized service area, including tables, bar, and preparation stations.
- Stay informed on literary trends and new releases.
Beverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve beverages such cocktails, mocktails, coffee, tea, and specialty drinks.
General Operations and Maintenance
- Handle transactions through the POS system, including sales of books, beverages, and merchandise.
- Assist in organizing and restocking book displays.
- Follow health, safety, and alcohol service regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods (up to 5–8 hours per shift).
- Ability to lift, carry, and shelve boxes of books or inventory items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, and handling of materials.
Qualifications
- Read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, bartending, or café operations preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with customers and team members.
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills.
- Barista and/or bartending experience is a plus (training available for the right candidate).
- Familiarity with food handling and safety regulations. Food Handler and/or Food Manager certifications (SafeServ, etc.) preferred.
