What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Test Engineer position at The Ranger Group?
**MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN TO APPLY**
**JOB WILL SIT IN EITHER FORT WORTH, TX OR MERRIMACK, NH**
Senior Electrical Test Enginee
rAbout the Rol
eThe Ranger Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Test Engineer to lead the testing, reverse engineering, and validation of military Ground Precision Warning Systems. In this role, you will be tackling complex system-level diagnostics where complete documentation may not be available
.Your primary mission will be to interrogate and reverse-engineer legacy and proprietary serial communications, parse undocumented data streams, and build comprehensive custom test sets from the ground up. If you excel at solving hardware puzzles, sniffing data packets, and designing robust Verification and Validation (V&V) environments for mission-critical defense systems, this role is for you
.Key Responsibilitie
- sProtocol Reverse Engineering: Interrogate, sniff, and analyze serial data buses to reverse-engineer undocumented or legacy communication links
- .Data Stream Analysis: Determine communication parameters (baud rates, parity, framing) and parse raw data payloads to understand exactly what information the Ground Precision Warning Systems are capturing and transmitting across RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 interfaces
- .Test Set Architecture & Design: Design, build, and deploy custom hardware test sets and automated test equipment (ATE) from scratch to interface with the warning systems
- .Verification & Validation (V&V): Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and scripts to rigorously verify that the unit under test (UUT) performs precisely to military and operational specifications
- .Hardware Troubleshooting: Utilize oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, serial sniffers, and multimeters to debug hardware and communication issues down to the component and protocol layer
- .Documentation & Reporting: Translate reverse-engineered findings into formal engineering documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), and final test reports
.Required Qualification
- sExperience: 10 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, test engineering, or systems engineering
- .Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- .Serial Protocol Expertise: Deep, hands-on, expert-level understanding of physical layer serial communication protocols, specifically RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485
- .Reverse Engineering: Proven track record of reverse-engineering undocumented hardware interfaces and decoding unknown data streams/telemetry
- .Test Set Development: Extensive experience designing custom test rigs, harnesses, and automated test sets for hardware validation
- .Bench Equipment: Mastery of standard electrical test lab equipment (logic analyzers, digital storage oscilloscopes, signal generators, protocol analyzers)
- .Must be able to obtain a Security Clearanc
ePreferred Qualification
- sIndustry Background: Previous experience working with military avionics, ground vehicles, or defense warning systems
- .Programming/Automation: Proficiency in test automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, C/C , or LabVIEW) to parse data and automate V&V processes
- .Defense Standards: Familiarity with MIL-STD testing and environmental requirements
Salary : $70 - $95
